“I realized that tomorrow is never guaranteed and that life is not a dress rehearsal. We need to live our lives like we meant it.” – Martha Staley
Do you struggle to find time for all the things it takes to build a successful direct sales business and have a balance peace in your day? Is it hard to find time for yourself after meeting all of your obligations to your family and job? Read this post and listen to the interview from Dream Coach Martha Staley and learn how to identify the obstacles in your life that keep you from making yourself a priority in your business.
Here are three actions you can implement immediately:
- Incorporate the business into the family and not the family into the business
Often times we try to make our family or personal priorities fit around our business. This can cause stress and even cause us to become overwhelmed. The beautiful part about the direct selling profession is that you can get to work when you want to. For example, avoid adding the “spinning plates”, before you go ahead and accept an invitation to hold a party or do a show, ask yourself: “How will it affect my family and career balance? Will it make me move forward in achieving my personal goals and family dreams?”
You also need to identify and prioritize the key aspects of your life and make sure that you block out that time in your planner before you start putting the parties, show dates and business meetings. When you do this, everything will be in balance and you will enjoy all aspects of your life and business. The key thought here is to design your business around your life.
- Learn to say “no”
Do you over commit or have a problem saying no? At first you will definitely feel that it is difficult because you are afraid to hurt someone’s feelings. Ask yourself: “Did I consider the consequences that it may create?” You are going back to the “spinning plates” concept; do not add up to the plates you are trying to spin. Be a different kind of “plate spinner”; learn to list your priorities. Make your self a priority in your life and then look at the other priorities and pull them around you instead of you being pulled towards them. Make yourself the center of your priorities rather than having your “plates” in a “row” that keeps you busy and make you forget the most important aspect in your direct sales business - YOU! By doing this, you will be able to realize that you do not have any more room to accept other “plates” giving you the freedom to prioritize and exercise your freedom to say “no”.
- Become a Direct Sales Expert
Leaders in the direct selling profession become an authority in their field. To do this you need to know what you want, have a plan, and set a goal that will aid you in achieving it. There is a difference of having a plan and achieving that plan. This is the line that differentiates successful and mediocre direct sales people. Successful people know how to achieve their goals and plans.
Determine what part of the business you are great at and develop it. Don’t focus on your weaknesses focus on your strengths. When you do this you can easily have success. Then surround yourself with with a direct sales team of people who are good at the things you are not. When you do this it allows you time to enjoy the business while you are building it.
Follow this advice and you will notice that you will have more quality time for yourself and reap the benefits of your direct sales business. These are 3 keys to be successful in direct sales or network marketing and will eventually make you the center of your profession and propel your business to the next level.

I really like the point that you made about focusing on your expertise. So many people let thatir skills fall by the wayside and try to conform. If everyone fit into the same exact business model we would all be in the same company!!
